Summer 2021 Restaurant Round-Up: Thomas' Donuts and Snack Shop

Updated: Jun 4, 2021

Welcome back to our Summer 2021 Restaurant Round-Up!

Today, we're looking at a fixture on Panama City Beach for the last 50 YEARS, Thomas' Donut and Snack Shop. I debated whether to include this in our round-up because Thomas' Donut and Snack Shop is a bit of a drive from the Joy Coastal condo. But, in my opinion, it is worth it!

Thomas' Donut and Snack Shop is located in Laguna Beach, right across the beach. In this area, the water view is not obstructed by buildings, so you can enjoy your snacks on the deck with a water view. You could also hop across the street and find a spot on the beach to enjoy your donuts. Does it get better than that? No. No, it does not.

The building itself is unassuming. You could easily pass it by without a second glance, except the line to order that stretches down the street might grab your attention. Rightfully so, at Thomas' Donut and Snack Shop, you'll find a menu full of the most fantastic donut flavors you can think of. These donuts are worth the wait!

The offerings change daily, giving you a reason to stop by to see what they're baking any time you're in the area. Some of my past favorites have been key lime, peaches and cream, and chocolate cream-filled donuts.

The last time we visited, we also tried the kolaches. If you aren't familiar with them, a kolache (or klobasnik) is yeast bread filled with a savory filling, often sausage and/or cheese. We enjoyed the smoked sausage and cheese, and smoked brisket and cheddar, flavors! I could see these becoming an easy lunch option on the beach.

Closer to lunchtime, the snack shop opens up and serves sandwiches, hamburgers, hot dogs, fries, shakes, and ice cream. There is something here for everyone.

Lines for food can get long, so plan your trip accordingly. Even though this is a bit of a trip for us, we think it's worth seeing this slice of local beach history. The fact that the donuts are amazing doesn't hurt either!

Come back tomorrow for our last post in this summer restaurant round-up series. We're visiting Craft 850, a new restaurant on the east end which offers a refreshingly thoughtful craft beer and food selection. You won't want to miss it!
